Defense was the name of the game on Friday night as the Admirals hosted the Rebels of West. Farragut’s offense struggled to find it’s rhythm all night. The Admiral defense, however, was clicking on all cylinders. Except for a long touchdown pass after a Farragut turnover, the Admiral defense was stellar when it mattered most. The Rebel offense was stymied all night, struggling to find itself with it’s third string quarterback.
The Admirals found themselves with several chances in Rebel territory, but were unable to capitalize. The Admirals’ offense was just 1-of-10 on third down conversions, and 1-of-4 on fourth down for the game.
The star of the night though, was undoubtedly, Alex Williams. The senior outside linebacker scored on two interception returns for a touchdown, for 35 and 49 yards respectively. Williams also had two tackles for loss that played key roles in stopping Rebel drives in Farragut territory. When the clocked showed 0:00, the Admirals found themselves with their 18th consecutive victory, 14-9 over the West Rebels.
Other stellar performers in the game include: senior LB Cade Burkey (20 tackles, 11 solo, INT), junior DE Caleb Kuhn (12 tackles, including 3 sacks, forced fumble), and junior OLB Neyland Harmon (9 tackles, fumble recovery). Junior CB Wyatt Lucas added a final interception to seal the victory for the Admirals. Farragut finished the game forcing five turnovers to only one for the Admiral offense.
The Admirals return to region play next week, as they host the Hilltoppers of Science Hill at Bill Clabo Field. The Toppers and the Admirals haven’t met since 2013, and this game will most certainly give the winning team the upper hand in the race for the Region 1-6A championship hunt.
