The Admirals opened up the home schedule Friday night against the Rebels from Knox-West, a team they have met yearly since 2007. Farragut was in search of their fourth straight win against the Rebels.
The West offense got off to a quick start, but the Admiral defense was able to force a 40 yard field goal attempt that was no good. The Admiral offense was unable to convert on long third down attempt and was force to punt it away. After forcing a West punt, the Farragut offense took over at their own 27 yard line. A 13 yard completion from Gavin Wilkinson to Hunter Shopovick on the first play of the drive sparked a drive that would go 63 yards and end in a 26 yard Simeon Sharpe field goal. The Admirals were first to put points on the scoreboard and take a 3-0 lead with 10:00 left in the 2nd quarter.
The Rebels proved to be ready to answer, they took the ensuing 79 yards and capped it off with a 1 yard TD run to take a 7-3 lead with 3:14 left before halftime. Farragut got the ball back just before half, looking for points. A 66 yard completion from Gavin Wilkinson to Hunter Shopovick on third down proved to be the catalyst for Simeon Sharp’s second field goal of the night, this time from 39 yards. The cut the Rebels lead to 7-6 at halftime.
The Admiral offense looked to come out motivated to score after receiving the 2nd half kickoff. A 14 yard Matt White run on the first play of the drive proved the motivation was there and kickstarted a 72 yard drive that he would cap off with a 48 yard touchdown run. This put the Admirals on top 13-7 with 9:49 left in the 3rd. The Admiral defense looked to feed off the momentum created by the Farragut offense. They did just that and force a three-and-out, but a muffed punt proved to turn the momentum 180 degrees in West’s favor. The next play, the Rebels competed a 33 yard touchdown pass to regain the lead at 14-13 with 7:34 left in the 3rd. A three-and-out on the ensuing drive setup West to convert on a 26 yard field attempt and extend their lead to 17-13 with 4:09 left in the 3rd.
The Rebels were able to punch it in one final time on a 90 yard TD run that made the final score 24-13. This marked the first regular season home loss for the Admirals since West beat them in 2015 and it was the first loss on the new turf playing surface at Bill Clabo Field.
A bye week follows the West game before the Admirals return to action in week 4 at Oak Ridge on September 13th.
