The Admirals opened up the home schedule Friday night against the Rebels from Knox-West, a team they have met yearly since 2007. Farragut was in search of their fourth straight win against the Rebels.
The West offense got off to a quick start, but the Admiral defense was able to force a 40 yard field goal attempt that was no good. The Admiral offense was unable to convert on long third down attempt and was force to punt it away. After forcing a West punt, the Farragut offense took over at their own 27 yard line. A 13 yard completion from Gavin Wilkinson to Hunter Shopovick on the first play of the drive sparked a drive that would go 63 yards and end in a 26 yard Simeon Sharpe field goal. The Admirals were first to put points on the scoreboard and take a 3-0 lead with 10:00 left in the 2nd quarter.
The Rebels proved to be ready to answer, they took the ensuing 79 yards and capped it off with a 1 yard TD run to take a 7-3 lead with 3:14 left before halftime. Farragut got the ball back just before half, looking for points. A 66 yard completion from Gavin Wilkinson to Hunter Shopovick on third down proved to be the catalyst for Simeon Sharp’s second field goal of the night, this time from 39 yards. The cut the Rebels lead to 7-6 at halftime.
The Admiral offense looked to come out motivated to score after receiving the 2nd half kickoff. A 14 yard Matt White run on the first play of the drive proved the motivation was there and kickstarted a 72 yard drive that he would cap off with a 48 yard touchdown run. This put the Admirals on top 13-7 with 9:49 left in the 3rd. The Admiral defense looked to feed off the momentum created by the Farragut offense. They did just that and force a three-and-out, but a muffed punt proved to turn the momentum 180 degrees in West’s favor. The next play, the Rebels competed a 33 yard touchdown pass to regain the lead at 14-13 with 7:34 left in the 3rd. A three-and-out on the ensuing drive setup West to convert on a 26 yard field attempt and extend their lead to 17-13 with 4:09 left in the 3rd.
The Rebels were able to punch it in one final time on a 90 yard TD run that made the final score 24-13. This marked the first regular season home loss for the Admirals since West beat them in 2015 and it was the first loss on the new turf playing surface at Bill Clabo Field.
A bye week follows the West game before the Admirals return to action in week 4 at Oak Ridge on September 13th.

Another annual meeting of what seems like a rivalry matchup between Farragut and Bradley Central unfolded in yet another great game Friday night. The Admirals returned to Cleveland for the first time since a thrilling OT win against the Bears in 2017.
The Admirals’ defense looked strong to start as Simeon Sharp kicked the ball away to begin the game. The defense was able to force a three-and-out by the Bears on their first drive. After trading punts, the Admirals were able to sustain a drive and march 51 yards down the field on the Bears defense. Matt White capped the drive off with a 5-yard touchdown run and give Farragut a 7-0 advantage with 4:23 left in the 1st. The Bears would answer quickly though, by returning the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and tied the score at 7-7.
The Farragut offense began their third drive picking up a couple of first downs before Brady Hodges was called in to pin the Bears deep in their own territory following his 38-yard punt downed at the 1 yard line. The Admiral defense held strong for three plays, but a 25-yard pass setup a 73-yard TD run by Bradley’s Ricky McCleary. The Bears took their first lead of the game and after a missed extra point the score was 13-7 Bears at the end of the 1st quarter.
The following Admiral offensive drive ended in an interception. Bradley would waste no time striking again, this time on a 53-yard touchdown run by their quarterback, Javin Burke, which gave them a 20-7 lead with 9:26 left before halftime. Another interception would end the following Admiral possession and give the Bears the ball at their own 36-yard line. On second down, Bradley turned to throw a screen pass into the flat. What looked to simply be an incomplete pass, but was ruled a lateral, as Alec Keathley seized the opportunity to recover the ball and return it 33 yards to the Bears’ 2 yard line. The Admirals would waste no time by leaning on their run game to score on the first play of the drive. This time it was Gabe Hensley that carried the ball across the goal line to cut the Bradley lead to 20-14. After another series of traded punts, the Bears were able to convert on a 27-yard field goal to take 23-14 lead into halftime.
The Admirals’ offense would yet again cross midfield only to be stopped on a failed 3rd-and-short run for the first down. Brady Hodges was called in to punt yet again and did so seamlessly as he pinned the Bears inside their own 10-yard line for the third time in the game. The Admiral defense would hold strong and force a punt that gave the ball back to the Admiral offense at the Bradley 44 yard line. A 21-yard Gavin Wilkinson to Hunter Shopovick pass was the catalyst to a drive that ended in 22-yard field goal that cut the Bradley lead to 23-17 with 5:27 remaining in the 3rd frame.
The Bears would again answer quickly, as a scramble from the quarterback Burke went 55 yards for a touchdown, and again extended their lead, this time to 30-17 with 2:32 left in the in the 3rd quarter. Farragut’s offense took over knowing they needed points and quickly began marching down field. A 25-yard Wilkinson to Isaiah Arrington completion and another 19-yard completion to Alec Keathley were the catalyst to 67-yard drive that ended with Gabe Hensley’s second touchdown carry of the night, this time from 3 yards out. This put the score at 30-24 in favor of Bradley as the 4th quarter began.
The ensuing Bradley drive was abruptly ended with the first turnover of the night for the Bears, Jackson Fontenot stepped in front of Burke’s pass and returned it 17 yards to give the Admirals the ball at the Bradley 38 yard line. A short completion on first down was followed by a 36-yard Gavin Wilkinson to Alec Keathley touchdown pass that returned the lead to the Admirals at 31-30 with 10:04 left to play. A familiar ending was in store for the ensuing Bradley drive as a turnover ended their drive, this time it was after Gabe Hensley stripped the ball from Burke as he was sacking him, and Dawson Brown recovered. A 20-yard touchdown pass was negated by a block in the back on the second play of the Farragut drive. However, that penalty was followed up with a 23-yard Gavin Wilkinson to Hunter Shopovick pass that setup a 10-yard Matt White touchdown run.
After a failed 2-point conversion, the Admirals held a 37-30 lead with 7:39 left in the game. Running high after two consecutive turnovers, the Farragut defense looked to hold strong yet again. It did just that, forcing a turnover on downs as a quarterback scramble was stopped short on fourth down. A quick three and out by Farragut gave Bradley another chance, trailing 37-30 with 2:27 left to play. That chance was dashed when Grant Rice stepped up in a big way to intercept a long, downfield pass, which proved to be the final dagger the Admirals needed. Farragut returned to Bradley victorious, coming from behind and winning 37-30.
Next week the Admirals open of the first home game of the 2019 campaign against the Knox-West Rebels. Kickoff is set for 7:30 as the Admirals look to tame another annual rival in the Rebels.

By the time August 23rd rolls around and the Admirals suit up to play Bradley Central, it will have been 281 days since their last game. The Admirals have looked to maximize their efforts and time to get ready for another season of 6A football this offseason.
It all began last November with winter offseason workouts. These workouts saw the Admirals working hard in the weight room to build their strength and prepare their bodies for another season of battle on the gridiron. Winter workouts lasted into the spring, which saw the Admirals get back into pads for three weeks of spring practice. Spring practice proved to be a great time of focusing solely on themselves and improving football fundamentals since there are no sanctioned games that are played. There were however, three separate scrimmages in the spring. The first being the annual Blue vs. Grey game, an inter-squad scrimmage that typically concludes spring practice, but due to scheduling issues, it was the first scrimmage of 2019.
The first scrimmage against another color jersey was the following week against the defending 5A state champions Knox-Central. The scrimmage was a great test for the Admirals against a quality program that provided a measuring stick for where the team stood. The final scrimmage of the spring was against a program looking to rebuild its storied tradition, Halls. The Red Devils came to Farragut with a new head coach that is very familiar with the Admirals, Scott Cummings.
With spring practice concluded and finals over, it was time for summer workouts. Summer training runs from the end of school until early July. As June began the Admirals participated in the UT Select 7v7 Tournament and competed against elite competition from across the Southeast.
The Team Kickoff picnic, an annual gathering of coaches, players, and all of their families, was held at McFee Park on July 28th. The next day, July 29th, saw the Admirals officially began fall camp in preparation for the 2019 football season. The first week of fall camp concluded with an inter-squad scrimmage which allowed coaches to evaluate and gauge the 2019 Football Admirals.
The second week of fall camp saw the Admirals scrimmage against Cookeville High School on August 8th. The Cavaliers have become an annual fall camp scrimmage for the Admirals, as the two teams have met each of the last five years in the fall. The final scrimmage of fall camp was against reigning back-to-back 4A state champions Greeneville. The Admirals and the Greene Devils have met each of the last three seasons in fall camp.
Wednesday, February 6th, was national signing day for college prospects in the class of 2019 nationwide. The Admirals had eight of their own sign college offers at the FCS, DII, DIII and NAIA levels. This year’s class of 2019 garnered much recognition for the efforts displayed on the football field. This class set the school record for wins (44) along with winning two Region championships (2015 & 2018) and the State Championship in 2016. Wednesday was an exciting day to celebrate and recognize these FHS student-athletes for their accomplishments and by realizing their opportunity to play college football.
RB Kyle Carter (Wheaton College) Kyle led the Admirals in rushing as a senior in 2018. He amassed over 1,600 yards of total offense and led the Admirals in scoring with 24 touchdowns to pace the Admirals’ offense. Kyle will attend Wheaton College in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. The Thunder are excited to welcome Kyle into their program as he could play on either side of the ball.
WR/DB Tanner Corum (Southern Illinois) Tanner led the Admirals’ offense in receiving yards and touchdowns and led the defense in interceptions in 2018. SIU is thrilled to add Tanner to their program as he could play multiple positions at the next level.
LB Joey Dietz (Carson Newman) Joey’s family moved to Farragut from Texas before his junior year in 2017. In two short years for the Admirals, Joey made a name for himself on the Admirals’ defense. Joey chose to attend Carson Newman and plans to compete for early playing time for the Eagles. Carson Newman coaches are excited to welcome Joey to their program to help them win another SAC conference championship in 2019.
RB/DB Isaiah Gibbs (UT-Martin) Isaiah had yet another productive season to cap his stellar career as an Admiral. Lining up all over the field on both sides of the ball, Isaiah gained over 900 yards of total offense and scored 10 touchdowns. Even though he missed two games due to injury in 2018, Isaiah still managed to eclipse 3,000 all-purpose yards for his career. Isaiah has been a solid UT-Martin commit since the summer. The Skyhawks are excited to add Isaiah’s versatility to their roster for 2019.
WR Jaden Gibbs (UT-Martin) Jaden led the Admirals with 38 receptions and over 550 yards receiving in 2018. Jaden finished his stellar career as the third-most productive receiver in FHS history in terms of receptions (98) and yardage (1,475). Jaden was recruited by programs all throughout the southeast and ultimately chose to sign with the Skyhawks of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Skyhawks are excited to add Jaden’s ability as a vertical threat to the receiver position in 2019.
OL Ethan Gossage (Campbellsville) Ethan started all 13 games as a senior along the offensive line in 2018. Ethan led the way, along with his OL mates, for an offense that amassed over 4,500 yards of total offense while scoring 33.0 points per game. Ethan was courted by as many as five schools up until signing day before signing with the Tigers. Campbellsville is excited to add Ethan to their roster because of his size and strength to help bolster their offensive line.
DE Caleb Kuhn (Wheaton College) Caleb anchored the entire defense as he earned Region 1-6A Defensive Player of the Year for 2018. He recorded 76 total stops on the season with an FHS-record 26 minus-yard tackles. Caleb is excited to attend Wheaton College alongside teammate Kyle Carter. Wheaton is excited to have the two Admirals join their program to win another conference championship in 2019.
LB Jake Parson (Carson Newman) Jake moved to Farragut in 2017 during his junior year. As a senior in 2018, Jake led the Admirals’ linebacking corp with with 60 total tackles and 8 tackles for loss. His best performance was against Maryville in the state Quarterfinals as he posted 13 tackles that night. Jake chose to attend Carson Newman to play alongside his brother, Nick, who is a junior offensive lineman for the Eagles. Carson Newman is thrilled to welcome Jake into their program for his athletic ability on the defensive side of the ball.
The 2018 Admirals claimed a Region 1-6A Championship for its accomplishments on the gridiron this fall. Due to the collective effort of so many, 13 Admirals were recognized for their production and selected by the Region 1 coaches to the All-Region Team for 2018.
